Categories of Membership

The membership of SERDO include only Founder Members, Life Members, Annual members and Corporate Members who join this society formally by making payment of prescribed membership fee.

Founder Members: There are seven founder members of the society whose name appear under clause 5 & 6 of the Memorandum of Association and have paid a fee of Rs.200 at the time of constitution of this society. They are: Late Shri M.S.Gokhale, Dr.A.K.Dubey, Late Shri M.K.Majumdar, Dr.B.K.Pandey, Shri L.P.Rai, Shi S.S.Kushwaha and Shri S.N.Jha.

Life Member: Governing Council may admit as life member a person who are interested in the objectives of the society and pay a onetime subscription of Rs.500/-

Annual Member: The Governing Council may admit those persons as annual members who are interested in the objectives of the society and pay an annual subscription of Rs.100/-

Corporate Member: The Governing Council may admit as corporate member to any department of the Government, University, Institute, Joint Stock Company, Society, Public sector Undertaking, Organization of manufacturer or trader who are interested in the objectives of the society, provided they pay annual subscription of Rs.500/- or one time payment of Rs.5000/- for a period of 10 years.

Associate Member: The Governing council, if feels that association of eminent expert or prestigious organization can be of any help to the furtherance of the aims and objectives of the society, may associate them as Associate Member with no liability to pay any membership.

Student Member: The Governing Council may admit those students of Post-Graduate, M.Phil., Ph.D. Post-Doctoral, etc. who are Indian Citizen and above 18 years of age and engaged in research work or have interest in welfare and development activities and would like to avail facilities of the SERDO such as library, research guidance, secretariat assistance etc.  They will have to pay a nominal fee as prescribed by the Governing Council from time to time as annual fee for registration as student member of the Society.

Patrons: The Governing Council may invite persons of eminence in various fields as patrons of the society.

Honorary  Member: The Governing Council may invite/nominate honorary members of the society to any person/organization who have rendered distinguished service in the field of socio-economic research and development.

Cessation of Membership and Re-admission:

(i)      The membership of a corporate member or an individual member will cease to be valid if the membership subscription is not paid within three months of the beginning of the financial year. Such member may later be readmitted by the Governing Council on payment of arrears or a fresh member.  

(ii)    A member of society may resign his office by letter addressed to the secretary General but his resignation shall be effective only on its acceptance by the Governing Council.

Rights and Privileges of Members: All members of the society, eligible to attend the General Council shall have equal voting rights in the election of the Governing Council at Annual and Special Meeting of the General Council described under rule 8 and 9  and shall through deliberations at these meetings formulate general policies, consistent with the objectives of the Society enumerated in the memorandum of association, to be executed by the Governing council.
